I am constantly organizing and re-organizing my pictures. I have yet to figure out the perfect filing system for the thousands of images that live on my desktop and eventually get printed in my portfolios. Today I took a minute to look back at some of my moments in memories that inspired me the most. I do this often and my love of my iPhone and my Canon allow me to totally immerse myself in my own pictures.
The short video below is from a trip past to Manhattan and includes a snippet of the images from that day. Most of these images are from two fashion exhibitions that I visited. Some of the images are from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, while others are from The Museum at Fashion Institute of Technology. These two houses of history are probably my most visited spaces in Gotham. My first time visiting a Met fashion exhibition was in 2011 with my very close girlfriend, Kai. We saw the monumental exhibition, "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty". I plan to do a retro-post on that show at some point. That show was one the Met's most attended fashion exhibitions at that time. That show also planted the seed of fashion exhibition craving in my head and soul that has made me thirst for more ever since.
The images in this quick video are most significant to me because of the details. Notice the beading in the Christian Dior black, long-lined jacket. Pay attention to the opening image of an Alexander McQueen dress bodice made of monarch butterfly wings. While my heart weeps for the butterflies, I cannot help be be in awe of the detail work and creativity to made this garment (maybe they are not real, I don't remember, but knowing Alexander McQueen...). Take note of the continued use of the wasp waist from an 18th century French court gown that translate wonderfully into a 1950's black wool lady's coat.
And don't get me started on the Chanel usage of jewel details on cuffs, necklines and as belts to adorn what is actually just a a black top and bottom. Ok, so it is Chanel. It is never just a black top and bottom, lol.
But don't take me word for it. Enjoy the moment with me.
