Amber, aka @1abstractprincess on Instagram is a phenomenal female abstract painter who showcases and shares her work with the world via Instagram. I have been following Amber for a while as abstractionism is one of my most loved art movements within modern art. I definitely enjoy seeing her paintings appear on my Instagram feed. They are lively, energetic artworks that allow the viewer to explore the canvas and experience her spirited painting style.
I think that the first thing that attracted my eye to Amber's work was the color. Her use of primary colors boldly pronounces to the world that she is here and present. I also think that I was attracted to her work because of a curiosity about her story: how and when did she star; who inspires her; what is she thinking when she creates her paintings? This semester, I have been taking a non-traditional research course that essentially promoted 21st century research skills as well as using the community to uncover and learn art history and the skills of being a researcher and historian. It was through this course that I decided to investigate the ladder questions about female artists.
My previous posts are the products of researching female artists of the past. Through researching their stories, I have learned of their pasts. This made me wonder how these women would have faired as creatives in this millennium, given that we are in the midst of what some call the "4th industrial revolution". The nature of studying history dictates that I would probably never be able to ask these questions of most of the women that I have posted and will post about. However, I can ask creative women of today the questions that are aroused in me when viewing their work. And, because we are in the proposed "4th industrial revolution", artistic, creativity doesn't have to be confined to just its deployment in the visual arts. Through this series, "7 Simple Questions with Creative Women", I will explore creativity and artistic expression of women problem solvers, achievers, movers and shakers.
My conversation with Amber was the first of the series. I learned much about her as an artist and her as a professional. She has the rare combination of artistic expressionist and business woman colliding, which accounts for her success. I was thrilled to learn of her inspirations and that we share a common love of work by Kandinsky. Amber was a joy to meet and work with.
